When we talk about loving ourselves, we often don’t understand how challenging and difficult that this can be. There is much more to self-love than a sentimental feeling about indulging ourselves.
First, we have to understand which “self” we are loving. Hermetic Teachings tell us that there is a False, mechanical “self” that is created from external circumstances, and then there is a true, eternal, essential SELF, which is made up of the Divine Spark that was gifted to us by God.
The effort of loving yourself is a willful act that requires making a concerted effort to be aware and accept the various parts of yourself, focusing on growing the Essential SELF and diminishing the power of the False “self” over time.
We all have bad habits and mechanical behavior that comes from our False “self”. It comes with being born into a human body. It is understandable that most of us don’t want to see or acknowledge these negative traits. Who wants to acknowledge aspects of themselves that don’t make them feel good? For this reason, and many others, it’s almost impossible for us to see many of the character defects that lie within us.
But our Spiritual growth lies in understanding and transmuting these defects, in order to grow our Essential SELF, otherwise known as the Spirit. As we begin the process of our own internal alchemy by transforming our base behaviors and habits into virtues, we let our golden internal light shine, becoming beacons to those around us and conscious collaborators with the divine.
We learn not only to love our selves, but to BE love, itself. For ourselves, and for others.
Please join Rosemarie Ramsumair and David Owens on a beautiful internal journey of discovery and love.
